Wireless Internet USB Adaptor WiFi Dongle for Windows Me/CE/2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7

Wireless Internet USB Adaptor WiFi Dongle for Windows Me/CE/2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7
I bought a new Windows 7 Fujitsu desktop and had great difficulty in trying to connect it to my existing home network either by Ethernet cable or wireless.

My Netgear DG834GT router/modem was, and still is, working fine both wired and wirelessly with other PCs running XP and Vista.

I tried using a Netgear WG111T adaptor that I knew worked with both a laptop and another desktop. The Netgear adaptor driver could not be installed on the new desktop, an error occurred everytime and installation was terminated. However, it must be said that the Netgear dongle continues to work with the other PCs.

So, with the Windows 7 desktop there was no success until I downloaded an unofficial driver from the internet (not from Netgear). With this driver installed on the desktop, some success ensued, although only spasmodic connectivity was achieved, despite the Netgear router and Netgear dongle being within inches of each other.

System diagnostics...
Installation is a pain. Device works intermittently and frequently drops connections - but only on XP. Works flawlessly on Win 7
[Updated review based on experience of customer that I bought it for]
[Updated further on 14 March 2012 to give experience of using with Windows 7]

After overcoming initial installation problems (see below), the device appeared to work perfectly. However the customer that I bought it for has had repeated problems with the device disconnecting and then refusing to re-connect despite unplugging/replugging the device from its USB lead, rebooting the router, and rebooting the PC. Signal strength varies wildly between good (four bars) and very poor (one bar). Even when the signal strength is good, the device will sometimes fail to connect: it just prompts for the WPA key to be entered again. Other times, the device works perfectly: when I was last with the customer I rebooted the PC five times and each time it connected immediately and stayed up, but the following day she reported that it was up to its old tricks again.

It's talking to a BT Homehub Wireless N...
Good value product
Installation of this item was very easy. I use it to connect my desktop PC to my router instead of using ethernet cable.

It operates reliably at 54Mbps on my desktop PC which is running Windows XP Home.

I'm pleased with this item and would recommend it.
