Expensive and a bit tricky to set up but prepare for extreme Internet joy!
Just received this router so still learning about its capabilities but on first look it has transformed our Internet experience at home. We have six devices connected and the performance and speed is quite simply outstanding. However, be prepared to work for this joy. This device may be a bit expensive and over engineered for basic Internet use in the home but for those of you intending to use the Internet for content streaming and gaming then you need look no further.
Now, here is the payoff for such Internet liberation. Now, I'm no techie, so for you IT literates out there who maybe install these types of devices for a living this will be a walk in the park and definitely better than a Netgear product. But come on Cisco, why don't these things work first time out of the box? For the price it should setup itself and make me a cup of tea at the same time.
It took me over four hours, including an hour on the phone with Cisco Support to get this thing working on my...
Problems with Virgin Media - How to resolve
Bought this and couldn't get it to recognise my Virgin Media network connection. Kept warning me, in the setup, that internet was disconnected. This was despite plugging my old router back in and internet being functional.
In the end I solved this by putting my old router in, downloading the latest firmware for this router, and then updating it.
I then did a power off of Modem / Router and waited 30s. Switched on the modem first, saw that it was up 2 mins later, then switched on the router. It could then recognise my Virgin Media connection.
I have 100mbps Virgin installed. Did some googling but couldn't find the answer, but found this page, and somebody else having problems getting it to work on Virgin, so thought I'd post this important info.
Long and short, if it's got older firmware in then it might not work on Virgin 100 & you'll need to flash it with latest.
Once working, pretty incredible performance.
Nearly Perfect...
This is a cracking router. It is fast, it has good range, it is simple to set up (but see below) and it works brilliantly with the WUMC710 - which I also bought.
The only problem with the installation is the setup application on the supplied CD. There are no instructions in the box - see the CD. There are no default settings for the router to just plug and play - see the CD and the installer pack. You can't obviously just set up the router on your own - see the CD and the installer pack. The installer pack will configure your router for you, apparently, but it is a bit of a pain, to say the least.
I have a mac. I loaded the CD. I ran the installer and it crashed. I ran it again and it crashed - but got a little further on this time. I didn't bother for the third time. If you believe the instructions in the box, the only way you can set up the router is to run the CD. I was then advised to call the support line, uh oh. If you come to this point, please read...
