Netgear DG834PN 108Mbps Wireless modem router and USB Adapter WPN111

Best of the bunch - if you are not a novice
I have used various ADSL routers from Draytek, Belkin and Thomson but this one has shown itself to be the easiest to use and the most reliable. Its not so much that this is a brilliant router, rather that it is the first one I have used which doesn't have some problem or other. (Belkin: DHCP didn't work properly and needed rebooting after connection problems. Draytek: took ages to connect probably due to fault. Thomson: OK really but UI not the best - still in use at home).

I should point out that it's easy to use only if you already have a little knowledge of how these things operate. A total novice might try and use the ADSL auto-detection feature which doesn't seem to work as it incorrectly detected PPPoE.

I have used most of the features that this router offers. This includes the remote interface and the various firewall options. All work as advertised.

The web interface has some well written help on the right hand side which tells what each...
What a huge waste of time - shockingly poor customer service and product
I am writing this exactly 24 hours on from receiving the item from Amazon. Having heard Netgear was the best, I felt assured this would be a good purchase to boost the internet around my home. Unfortunately I have just sent it back, and not for lack of trying.

The installation process was incredibly slow and unecessarily painful - ignore the installation CD. I had to call up Netgear customer services to get it connected properly (nice little earner for them). Then came trying to install the Adapter; all seemed okay until I tried to access it - the software would appear on screen and then disappear straight away! I called Netgear again and they said it was not compatable with Windows 7 (despite seeing no evidence of this on their website). So, I tried it on my girlfriends Vista machine and again, the same problems. Finally I got it to work on Windows 7 (odd) only for it to not work again after that. Having read many reviews about the poor quality of this adaptor I...
Disapointing
Set-up was easy, and for the first week the wireless connection was ok, but not brilliant, then the persistent wireless disconnection's started.
The WPN111 adapter made very little difference to transfer speeds and its large size makes it totally impractical to have hanging out of the USB port, also it became very hot!
Expected a lot more after having a Netgear DG834V for a few reliable years. Am returning it to Amazon and will continue with the DG834V until something better comes along
