Buffalo AirStation Nfiniti WHR-G300N/U - Wireless router + 4-port switch - EN, Fast EN, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n (draft), 802.11n (draft 2.0)

Good speed but poor range
Bought this recently and had to take it back unfortunately.
Once the setup was done (quite easy) it worked well and the speed increase was significant...
But it has a poor range in my house - i could sit in the garden and connect to my old one, but not this buffalo.
It may be alright in modern 'stud wall' houses but no good for a solid brick house.
Pity really, I liked the look of it as it didn't have antennas sticking out but i feel that may be why the range is poor.
Airstation WHR-G300N/U
Fantastic price from Amazon for this versatile N router. Most importantly it can easily be modified by running the DD-WRT firmware which gives additional features (I needed it as a wireless bridge) although your warranty will be voided as impossible to revert to Buffalo firmware. NB 'bridge' on box means wired to wireless within the router NOT over the wi-fi link - hence need for DD-WRT. Physically small and easily hidden or put in an inconspicuous location (I used it to connect my internet enabled TV (Sony KDL-32W5500) in the lounge to my BT wirless router in teh study). Easily supports iPlayer and streamed audio from a PC etc. Only downside (hence 4 stars) is that the small box only has internal antennae which do not give the best reception - though re-orientating the box can help a lot.
DD-WRT capable
This is a very compact, unobtrusive unit that seems to work well. The unobtrusiveness is very important if you have a partner who is picky about clutter. A big advantage, and I hadn't realised what a big advantage it is until I tried to use this router, is that you can install the DD-WRT firmware. Because I'm ignorant and technically incompetent it took me a while to flash the firmware and get the unit operating properly as a repeater bridge. Knowing what I know now, the whole process would take about 15 minutes.

If you don't want to do anything complicated, getting it to work as a simple wireless router is dead easy with the supplied CD.

I haven't had any range problems in my house.
