Effective, simple and well-thought out
This is a simple but powerful networking solution where you plug the units into a mains socket, plug ethernet cables in, and have an instant network running through the electricity cables of your house. It's approved to the current standards, easy to set up, and fast, and, in this version, includes a pass through socket so you don't lose a socket by using it.
At up to 200 megabits per second, the dLAN AVplus is potentially twice the speed of standard 100 base T ethernet, and faster than either the standard wifi, or the recently released n specification. I say potentially, because the actual speed of the network depends on a number of factors, but, if you have appropriate components, you stand a better chance of speed with these units than with wifi. As importantly, for everything but a laptop, this is as convenient as wifi, since ever desktop Mac or PC, every networked disk or printer must also have a power supply socket.
What this is is a network adapter which...
It just not be any easier
Item arrived. Unpacked it. Plugged it in. It worked perfectly. Things could not have seen simpler. I use the item to watch iPlayer on my Sony Freesat TV - as yet not seen a single glitch. VERY pleased with item. N.B. Amazon is display the picture of the Smart+ item, when the item for sale is the AVplus i.e. it does not have the LCD displays.
It just works
As the previous review says, this product could not be easier to set up, and does just what it says on the tin. It must have taken a grand total of five minutes from opening the box to connecting to the internet. What a difference in network speed from my previous wireless connection; web pages and emails fly onto the screen, the iPlayer and YouTube are glitch-free, and updating my iTunes podcasts has gone from a slow chore to crikey-has-that-finished-already?
The network cables supplied in the box to connect the wallplug to the device are only about 1.5 metres in length, so if your electricity socket is further away than that you need to get hold of a longer cable.
A simple and splendidly effective bit of kit.
