Good, Reliable, Fast bit of kit, faster than ISP's own router and stable.
Having trusted the D-Link brand for a number of years and never being let down the DSL-2740B had a lot to live up to and it didn't let me down. The setup was very easy and the unit was up and running within just a few minutes of being unboxed, in fact it took longer to screw in the three antennas than it did to run the setup, it was just that simple. My previous router supplied by my ISP (BeThere) was a terrible thing always disconnecting from various bits of kit and locking up but the D-Link has not done anything but work. The signal is better than the old 802.11g router and the speed is much improved. No lock ups and I have pushed this kit to the max as far as my DSL connection will allow (over 10Mbps which is 1Mb faster than the ISP supplied box!). I dont understand the other review on the site as it seems totally at odds with what I have experienced and as I say all D-Link items I have bought or used in a professional capacity have proved good reliable bits of kit. I definately...
Works well with O2 LLU
I am with O2 and I had high hopes for the 2740B because it has a Broadcom Chipset but when I first connected this router it synced at a much lower speed than the O2 Box did and it kept losing the internet.
However, when it did work I liked it so I decide to try a firmware update from the D-Link website.
After the update to firmware version 2.51 the router was completely different. - It synced at top speed and was much snappier.
The firmware upgrade made all the difference, without it the router performance was poor but after the firmware upgrade it was really good.
So the moral is buy the router and carry out the firmware upgrade immediately.
Other good things to note about this router are the fact that the build quality appears to be very good and it has an 11 year guarantee.
One downside may be that the firmware updates seem to be few and far between.

DSL-2740B Router
This router reminds me of that poem about little girls. "When she was good she was very, very good, but when she was bad she was horrid."
My router seems to have bouts of not connecting to the Internet. I have noticed that when it is just switched on from cold it connects okay and also when it has been running for some time. It is that in-between time when it has been switched off for a while but not cold and then switched on again that the right-hand indicator light stays off and I have to switch it off for say 12 seconds and then back on again. Not a big problem you might say but annoying and my Netgear DG834G never did it, so I guess it is not a connection fault.
