BELKIN Wireless Univ. Range Ext. Acc.

It works! but it may take you many, many long hours to get there!
We bought this product to get better Internet signal strength in parts of our home that were only getting very little or none. We did a bit a research on what would be best as a range extender and seeing a few good reviews (plus some negative) we decided on the Belkin as we have a Belkin Wireless Router. On opening the box the instructions show a very simple set-up, by pressing the "auto-connect" button and holding it in for 10 seconds the Range Extender should find the Router. Well, guess what, it didn't find it and after hours of re-positioning it and holding in that darn button we went to seek help. Luckily at the time we had a technician in that said he'd give us a hand but he couldn't figure it out. Then we had a guest stay that was in the I.T trade and he couldn't figure it out (even with a phone call to Belkin). After a while Belkin phoned back and they couldn't work it out (said they'd pass it on to the highest level). Well, days and days (months actually) were passing with...

This is not a product for the faint hearted! The Auto Set-up feature is hopeless and didn't work even with all the security turned off. The user manual is inadequate! Belkin first-line telephone support do not know enough about the product and you have to wait forever for a call back from an expert - which I got 24 hours later after I had worked it all out. I recommend downloading the latest manual and resort to manually setting the unit up through a wired connection. If you have a PC and a wireless laptop even better as you can experiment with both ends. With a lot of trial and error, 4 hours later it finally worked. Once working it's excellent and does a great job of extending wireless range. If you feel network confident and are able to tolerate some of the set-up idiosyncrasies - then this is a great product for the price.
