Surprisingly good given important conditions (HSDPA?)
I've had one of these for 2 days now and have been particularly impressed. I used it continuously plugged in but I'm sure I'll find the reasonable battery life of a few hours very useful instead of searching for wiresless hot spots. Only use the pre-pay if your usage really is quite modest otherwise a contract SIM is the preferred choice but 3Gb will last quite a while on a bit of email/news/photo browsing most evenings. Most important is this...make sure you have good coverage. I live in Manchester city centre and I get fantastic signal/coverage. 3G is quite quick and fast but in areas with good signal you'll get what some people call 3.5G or HSDPA connection (shows H instead of 3G on the mini display). This is when you get quite amazing speed. The good thing is that you can position it near a window where you should be able to guarantee a good connection. If you think you need it then double check you can get a HSDPA connection (see a friend's dongle or ask a mobile phone junkie...
3 MIFI with 3GB
Just to confirm, although the item description says E5830, I received the newer version E585 as shown in picture. Very pleased as its good value and its works well (if you have good coverage), I get approx 5mb downlaod speeds and 1.5mb upload in my area :-) Its basically a wifi router that fits in your pocket and uses the mobile network to create your own mobile wifi hotspot, which you can connect upto 5 devices - much better than using those plug-in dongles and great for getting wifi on portable devices such as Laptop, Netbook, IPAD or IPOD Touch etc. Recommended...
Unable to use abroad
I bought this device as I'm a pilot and travel extensively, I was told once u locked it can be used abroad unfortunately it doesn't ( even when unlocked) only good when used at home where it's not really needed.
