Linksys X3000 Advanced Wireless N ADSL2 with Modem Router
I've only been using this router for a few days now but so far I have no complaints and my review is based on my experience so far. It did seem to take a while to set up compared to previous routers but I think that is because of the Cisco Connect interface that it adds to the computer. This is new to me as previously I have accessed the router settings via a browser page and I have to say that I prefer this method. It also allowed me to create an "Easykey Setup" on a flash drive to connect other devices to the network (or you can of course use the manual option for doing this so you don't have to use the Easykey Setup). Cisco Connect is very easy to use and quite useful too and has features like allowing guest access to your internet connection. This can be switched on or off for up to five guests. I did miss the green and red lights of my old router initially as this one only has white (blue on startup) but it's a small detail and I'm used to it now. The really good thing is...
quality kit
Did a lot of research and spec comparisons before buying this modem router. I discovered that there are several 'flavours' of ADSL and consequently checked my broadband supplier BT. This high spec modem supports them all. Importantly for me it (eventually) works with my MAC's OSX 10.7. However be warned the setup software refused run despite the onscreen instructions confusingly stating it supported OSX 10.6 and later versions?! A visit to the Linksys website & a download later (lesson: don't throw your old modem away!) and it self-installed. The web browser interface has an extensive range of features and looks very much like the one I used on my other Linksys router. I selected this model because of its speed (it has a Gigabit ethernet) and wireless range after two days it appears to be working well and living up to my expectations.
Cisco X3000 Excellent Product Works Exactly As It Should
Well I had to buy a new router to replace a Belkin which I could not bring back to life after attempting to update firmware. Finding the right replacement was not easy. I am using Talktalk ISP and watch BBC iPlayer HD via ethernet and also stream music to wifi internet radios around the house from a portable hard drive directly connected via USB to the router. So tried two Netgear solutions, DGND2200 and DGND3300, neither delivered everything they promised particularly with media streaming and Netgear support was very poor. Then tried an Asus N55U which was fast but has a clunky interface and overall did not perform smoothly. Finally found the Cisco X3000 which has turned out to be a dream machine. Iplayer HD beautiful performance without buffering issues, music streaming is flawless. The only shortcoming for me was wifi signal strength in my three storey townhouse. So I have installed a TP-LINK wifi range extender on the middle floor and now all three floors have 4 bar wifi...
