Exellent Wireless ADSL2+ Router for Home Use
This ADSL router is a trimmed down version of its bigger brother - the Billion 7800N Dual WAN ADSL2+ Wireless Firewall Router - THE best ADSL+ router I have come across. You will find my detailed review of the BiPAC 7800N model by looking up the product Billion BiPAC 7800N Dual WAN ADSL2+/Broadband Wireless-N Gigabit Firewall Modem Router, and most of the general comments for 7800N also apply to the 7700N model being reviewed here.
The trimming down referred to actually doesn't affect the capability of this wireless ADSL2+ router for general home use. One notable downgrade is that the Ethernet ports are 10/100Mbps as opposed to 100/1000Mbps on the 7800N model. The increased Ethernet data speed only makes a difference (under ideal conditions) if you're making local file transfers (say between two computers on your LAN) otherwise the 100Mbps speed is more than adequate to handle the Internet side data...
Excellent Router
Top class router at an excellent price. Better wireless coverage than my previous Voyager 2110, looks good and performs without fault. If you are into 'tweaking' your connection then allows access via Telnet, or the DTM Tool, and hangs onto a connection like a limpet!
Perfect router for home usage!
I've owned many routers in the past from Linksys, Thomson, Netgear among others. This is my first Billion router, and so far, I'm impressed.
This router is perfect for home usage. It's Billion's entry level wireless router, with a broadcom chipset. If you don't know too much about modem/routers just consider that it's very good in this price range.
Setting this up is very easy. After switching the router on, it will create a wireless network, with the name 'wlan-ap' which you can connect to, or you can use a wired connection via ethernet cable. After this, go to your browser and type in 192.168.1.254 into the address bar and hit enter, you'll be prompted for a username and password, which is simply 'admin' for both.
From this page you can set up your SSID name, wireless security, ISP/ADSL settings and so forth. It's pretty easy to do if you've set up a router before. If you haven't, you can simply insert the CD provided which will ask you for your ADSL...
