Poor Signal Quality
Ok firstly let me say that Belkin Technologies is a reputable company, but some of its products is a big LET DOWN!
This is no different- this product is only good if you have your wireless router in the SAME ROOM as your wireless cards etc, otherwise your signal ratio will drop by almost 80%.
Heres my test:
Router in same room as Desktop PC w/ this card = Signal = 80%
Router just outside room as PC w/ this card = Signal = 50%
Router on floor below = Signal = 10-15%
I wouldn't recommend this to anyone! go get yourself a Netgear card, they are the 2nd best company for wireless, that is unless you can afford an expensive Orinico one!
Good card but let XP install the drivers...
The installation instructions for this card go something like 'run the installation CD first, then swtich off your PC when prompted and fit the card. Restart the machine and hey presto'.
Well, fair enough - that's works OK. However the extra software that gets installed just seems to conflict with XP and and I couldn't get a consistent connection to my broadband router. And my PC kept crashing.
So, I de-installed the card using the uninstall utiltiy Belkin provided, rebooted the PC, let XP discover the card and install the drivers from the Belkin installation CD. Now it works like a treat and the PC no longer crashes.
A reasonable buy but you may need to do some fiddling around to get it to work properly!
No problems at all
I have had no problems with this card since installing it a couple of months ago. I'm using it with Windows ME and a Belkin wireless modem/router.
Standard installation - install drivers, install card, swith PC back on, etc. Quick and simple.
It detected my wireless modem quickly and had no problems connecting to the network.
Can't fault it.
