Belkin AC 950/1150 Wi-Fi Dual Band USB Adapter

Compact and efficient
My previous Belkin home hub adaptor had lost the plot somehow, so I was looking for a reasonably priced replacement. From the many listed, there were not many that specified compatibility with Windows 7, which is crucial. It wasn't too difficult to set up, considering I am not especially computer-literate, but you had to locate your card with the Home hub key and password etc on in order to reset it. Despite using a wireless N router, the signal was poor and sometimes non-existant in certain parts of the house which was pretty irritating. A Great Buy for something so small
When I update my BT hub to the new fibre broadband I needed a new wireless adapter for my laptop and as I was already using a Belkin Wireless G+, I check out on Amazon to see if I could get a new Belkin adapter. And I found a large range of Belkin adapters and the one I saw and purchase was the Belkin Wireless N300 USB Adaper I did have one problem getting the software install but this was only because another program was stopping me install the Belkin software, but in the end I have got the software for the adapter install, and I am getting on line within about 10 minutes. And the best thing about this adapter is the size of it, as it only stick out of the side of my laptop by about 3cmms, and I am getting good speeds as well so yes I am happy with this purchase.

Belkin 802.11g Wireless Modem Router and Usb Adapter Bundle (F5D7632uk4 / F5D7050uk)

helpful tech support
Bought the previous version of this which was very easy to install and does a good job. The best bit about buying Belkin is their customer support. They have a 24 hour free-phone number that gets answered promptly, unlike most tech support desks that are expensive and take ages to answer (whilst they tell you how important your call is to them!). The staff in India are extremely knowledgable, friendly and helpful. They also have an excellent system such that when I spoke to someone new they immediately knew the history of my problem, whereas most support desks need the problem explaining all over again. All in all I received outstanding service and in my experience Belkin have by far the best support team of any I have used.
Quick and easy to setup. No problems since!
Either I got a good unit or the people writing some of these reviews have been using this thing wrong. I set it up for my parents' PC and it took only a few minutes to connect to their broadband account. The signal from a couple of rooms away is fine and they've had no problems with it since I put it in over two months ago now.
Amzing piece of Kit
Warning to the technophobe! This is not easy to setup! It may be frustrating at times but it is a learning curve. My dad bought this for me and a USB adapter (required if setting up a wireless network fyi) hoping to set it up in a jiffy and have no problems at all. Unfortunately my dad is not very "computer literate" as he puts it and I had to take over. Setting up the router is straight forwardish and so is the USB adapter its getting the dam things to "talk" to each other thats the problem. After using belkins online free help chat service thing it was setup and works like a charm! But a word of advice it is very useful to have a friend or relative that is good with computers or has an a-level in it lol! I've read previous posts and from the descriptions it appears to be problems with their computer setups or broadband lines themselves (dont trust BT as I had a similar problem with them regarding a different piece of kit they WILL pass the blame until you shout at someone lol)...

Netgear RangeMax WPN824 MIMO-G Wireless Cable Router

Rangemax - Purchase a beauty
I brought the rangemax wireless router to use BT Broadband with 2 home computers and a laptop. The range and speed is almost always around 54mps and an excellent signal quality. I have sat at the end of our 200ft garden and can still get a good signal. The setup was easy enough just put in the CD and your off. One word of warning though this product needs an external Ethernet Modem not USB as supplied with most broadband providers.
Netgear Router WPN824
Excelent piece of hardware!
I was a little worried that the signal would not be stong enough to go through two floors, and numerous walls, to be recieved at the bottom of the house by my laptop, however signal is good/very good 90% of the time which is far better than I expected.
I needed a little help setting up, and sorting password security, but technical support were excelent, and all was sorted in a matter of minutes.
Therefore if you need a router with good signal strength, this seems to do the job very well!
Ignore the FRUSTRATED review below
This to alert non-techie users to the bad information given in the review posted on 4 January 2006 entitled "Frustrated - Not Half". It is not Netgear's fault that the wrong router was purchased by the previous reviewer. This router is designed to work with cable broadband suppliers (such as NTL & Telewest) and therefore will not support PPPoA as they don't use that protocol. However if you want PPPoA to use with a BT phone line, you need the Netgear model DG834PN - the ADSL Modem Router. This does support PPPoA and will work with any broadband that uses a BT phone line. I have used both Netgear & Belkin products, so I know what I'm talking about.

Devolo dLAN 200 Avsmart and Starter UK Kit (Pass-Thru, Filter + LCD) (2x Plugs)

Does exactly what it says on the tin
Home mains networking has arrived and it is both reliable and affordable! For years I have been fiddling about with Ethernet cables and wireless, trying to network our home computers. Wireless signal strength has always been distinctly iffy, and last week the Ethernet cable that I laid across the hall, under the new carpet and a couple of very full bookcases, gave up the ghost - leaving us with a much-used desktop PC that had no Internet connectivity. "No sweat," I said. "I've been thinking of moving that PC to wireless anyway". So I ran down to Maplin and came back with a leading brand wireless PCI card, installed it, and got it working in about 30 minutes. Trouble was, the signal strength was so gutless - from a router two rooms and about 40 feet away - it couldn't get us on to the Internet at all! Back to square one. (Incidentally, while researching I discovered that metal and water stop wireless dead; brick, stone, and breeze blocks attenuate it by 90-95 percent; and even double...
EASY CONNECTIONS
This is a great product if, like me, you live in an old house with very thick walls which will defeat almost any wireless network. Works out of the box even with less than modern wiring and I have not experienced any drop-out or freezing so far. The only problem was that one plug failed after only a few hours use but the returns service at Amazon quickly sent a replacement and arranged to collect the faulty item - full marks to them.
Very simple to use but limited support for Mac OS X
I purchased the starter kit to improve the speed of my home network as I have a couple of Apple Macs in different rooms. Setting the network up was very simple indeed - I plugged the units into the mains sockets and they automatically recognised each other. I was also impressed by the network's speed which was about 40% faster that the previous connection over a 20 metre phone extension cable. Devolo also provide a utility that enables you to encrypt the network which was quick and easy to use.

However I was slightly disappointed in the lack of support for OS X users. Windows users are provided with a network utility and a way to upgrade the firmware on the devices - in contrast there's nothing available for Apple OS X users which is a pity given they market the product as OS X compatible.

Belkin 802.11g Wireless G Gaming Adapter

Just for Gaming?
Don't let the name throw you; Belkin's Wireless G Gaming Adapter is a sound and reliable bridge, by all means this isn't just for your gaming consoles.

Assuming most users will have some degree of security on their networks initially the bridge will need configuring with your network settings; this can be done with the supplied software disc or, in my opinion, much more easily using the bridge's internal interface (initially accessed at "192.168.2.225"). Either way - to configure it you will need to use your computer.

Connect up the bridge to an Ethernet (LAN) port on your computer ensuring that either you or the DHCP sets the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) of the connection to a suitable address subnet to access the bridge - the initial IP of the F5D7330 is '192.168.2.225' (so the IP address of the connection should be set as '192.168.2.xx' where "xx" is any number between 1 and 255 (with the exception of 225), subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 and the gateway as...
Just what I needed
I was looking for a way to connect my new TV to my wireless network at home. I already have a wireless router upstairs, and needed a way to connect up my TV. As all my TV had on the back was an Ethernet port, I didn't fancy running an ethernet cable through the house. I also didn't want to spend a fortune buying a second full-blown wireless router.

This device solves that problem. You connect the Ethernet cable from the TV (or X-box, PS3, blue-ray player... anything with an Ethernet port) to the back of the device. It then connects this to your wireless network.

The setup is fairly simple. You first need to connect the device directly to your PC, but this is only so you can set up any encryption keys you are using. Once you've done that, you don't need to put it anywhere near a PC again.

You can power it either with the mains adaptor, or using the power from two USB slots, (cable provided). I use the mains adaptor, as this is easier for me, but...
Fantastic piece of kit
I was worried that this product would make my XBox Live connection slow and lag, but it works fine with a 54Mbps router. There are a few moments occasionally (about once every hour) when the game lags behind a bit, but its nothing too disruptive, and it depends on how good your router is.

People have been saying you have to download extra firmware if you want WPA or WPA 2 support for your network, but it seems this problem has been fixed, as all I had to do was load the CD and follow a few steps on the PC, plug it into the XBox and I was off. I didnt need to configure the router on the XBox dashboard, it was all done on the PC.

The adapter can be powered by either two USB ports (the ones in the XBox work fine) or a power adapter. It also fits in with the colour scheme of the XBox 360, so it is not much of an eyesore.

All in all, a great product, just as good if not better than the official XBox 360 adapter at a lower price.

Belkin Wireless N150 Modem Router ADSL (BT Line)

Good for the price
First of all, I have to emphasise misleading marketing on the part of Belkin. Where this product is described as an N150 router, you would expect speeds of 150mbps, however the router only goes slightly above Wireless g speed, at 65mbps maximum speed.
The router is not 802.11n certified, but in practice, the range and speed are more than satisfactory for a standard ADSL broadband connection. It is certainly a fair bit faster than our old D-Link DSL-G624T router, which reached only g speeds, and began to seem painfully slow at the end of it's useful life.

Yes, it can be temperamental at times, but this doesn't mean you shouldn't buy it. It drops out occasionally but usually reconnects without needing a restart, and for little more than

DIGIFLEX 54 MBPS Wireless PCI LAN PC Adapter Card 802.11G WiFi

This card is not what it claims to be!!
Firstly to agree with the reviewer who says the card is not as the photograph he is completely correct. The EDUP card (missing out a letter 'F' I think is a much larger card using a carrier in which is inserted the wireless card, covered over with the blue screening can. This was slightly bent in on the one I received; it came in a freezer bag with a small driver disk. The drivers installed OK but the set up program installed it with United States wireless settings and gave no option to change wireless settings to United Kingdom, so would not connect to the router.

Windows XP gave the driver details for the plug in wireless card not as TRIXES or EDUP but the actual plug in wireless card manufacturer. Their website only had the card drivers not the setup utility. It offered a download to fix problems, but the file was corrupt. I then checked the MAC address which gave the owners of that series of MAC addresses again completely different manufacturer.

very quick service
I ordered this wireless lan card yesterday and it arrived this morning. It was very good value for money and works very well. The only small gripe is that I could not find any insallation instructions, but this did not matter as it was easy to install. I installed the drivers before installing the card. After installing the card I used the utility which came with it to automatically configure my connection ( I clicked on the wireless lan utility shortcut on the desktop). I was set up and running in 5 minutes.
If you value your spare time, avoid this card
Let me start by saying I've been an IT technician for over ten years so although I don't know anywhere near everything there is to know, I have been round the block a bit...

Firstly the card I received was not the card in the photograph. I would tell you exactly what card I received but it's impossible to tell without removing the manufacturer fitted cowling around the chipset as there are absolutely no identifying marks or serial numbers apart from the big 'EDUP' sticker right over the top. The initial driver CD contained the wrong drivers (to be fair to the seller, when I complained about this they sent another driver CD however that still didn't have the right drivers on it!). Trying to google for drivers using just 'EDUP' as the search string delivers a variety of drivers, none of which seemed to work with Windows 7 x64.

I have wasted around 4 hours of my life trying to get this card to work and whilst I accept that there is probably a driver out there on...

Linksys by Cisco WUSB600N Wireless-N USB Network Adapter with Dual-Band

It is compatible with Windows 7....
I've seen a few reviews on here giving this product a low star rating because of its claimed incompatibility with Windows 7, yet Linksys do claim it is on their website. I have it working fine on Windows 7 64-bit.

Firstly, you ditch the CD. Then plug it into a USB socket, either directly or using the extension/stand. Windows will no doubt tell you that device installation has been unsuccessful - this is what we want as it shows they are connected correctly.

Hit Start and start to type "Device Manager", open said Device Manager and Navigate to Network adapters. You should see "Linksys WUSB600N v2" with a yellow mark next to it. Right click it and go to Update Driver Software, and download the Vista (32 or 64bit) drivers from the Linksys website under the support section - yes I do mean the Vista drivers.

Once you have downloaded the folder, you will have three folders within that, Mac OS X, Vista32 and 64, keep the one relevant to your operation system,...
Linksys WUSB600N
Linksys Wireless-N USB Adapter
This superb wireless adapter was very easy to set up and is certainly very powerful. We live in an old house with very thick walls and the adapter connected easily on the third floor with our BT hub on the ground floor. It is also sufficiently powerful to connect from the other side of our garden with the hub in the hallway. I would wholeheartedly recommend it.
Brilliant Pickup And No Complaints!
When writing a review I always try and look for the negatives as well as the positives but this little wireless adapter is perfect!

I had a B/G card in my Dell laptop so wanted this for N coverage on my new broadband router.

I installed it in under 2 minutes and the pickup is fantastic! I used to see 2 networks with my inbuilt laptop but this picks up 7 networks!

And when connected on N it is hyper fast and very stable.

All in all this is a quality product, good software, amazing coverage and doesn't seem to be too bad on battery life.

Not cheap but then again Cisco is the world's best network kit!

A recommended purchase!!

TP-link TL-WN821NC 300Mbps Wireless N USB Adapter

Impressed
I must admit i am impressed with this. I have never had to use a dongle before as I was wired via wireless. Just did up the spare room so moved PC in to it and this was the ticket. So simple to set up and just need to configure it to your wireless and away you go. There does not seem to be much speed loss compared to when I was wired but I think that has to do with the wireless router more than anything. All in all i am happy with this purchase.
Works and works well.
Good value Wireless N USB adapter. Install the software, plug the adapter in, enter the wireless connection details and you're away! Nice and easy software interface with a reliable 300MBps connection to my Belkin N1 Vision router. Incidentally I've been using the adapter with a Dell 4600i and WinXP Pro.
Simple to use with a BT Homehub
Having moved a 10 year-old desktop into a room well away from our router, we needed a simple plug & play device to connect to our BT Homehub 2.0; a read of the other reviews for this adapter suggested it would be ideal and it is.

It's simple to set up and was found immediately by our PC which runs Windows XP Home. The Homehub is four rooms away at the other end of the house and while connection strength is low, the signal doesn't seem to drop out and is at a very usable speed. A great piece of kit at a great price too.

Belkin Wireless Range Extender Dual Band

Absolute doddle to set up and use
I have had range extenders before now and none of them has been easy to set up the moment I tried to use encryption or to allow network resources to be seen across the whole extended network.

This Belkin is different.

To set up, just plug in and search for the Belkin network. Now connect to it. Now try to browse to any page and the Belkin set-up page appears. Apart from putting in the security code, I used the default for absolutely everything else and, guess what, it worked immediately.

I've tried in a few sockets around the house before I have found the best place and, with the exception of the room where my router is, the Belkin provides more bars than the original router. A good strong signal anywhere.

So for ease of set-up and performance, I can't give this anything other than the full 5 stars.

Highly recommended.

PS - One final tip. The default name for the new wireless access point is the same as your...
Good design but unreliable/unstable wifi coverage
I have set up this wifi extender at home to reach the outer most edges of the house. While the design looks great, it doesn't perform well.

I have tried:
(1) Pairing it up with Virgin Media Superhub.
(2) Pairing it up with Linksys Router.

I also used various devices to connect to it and tested it out. I have used
(1) Android phone
(2) Windows Phone 8
(3) BlackBerry PlayBook tablet
(4) HP laptop running Ubuntu/Windows 7
(5) MacBook Air running MacOS X
(6) Fujitsu laptop running Ubuntu/Windows 7

But the connection is patchy at the best. I have thoroughly tested this extender, and I would like to strongly discourage you from buying this product. (And yes, you guessed right I work in IT.)
Easy peasy!
This range extender is so easy to set up it took truly seconds. It replaced an older model from a different manufacturer which was forever needing re-booting and had a poor signal.

This baby has a strong signal and a good range...and it looks good.

Netgear DGN3500 RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Modem Router

Great little product- simple config change solves connection problems
I've found this product has a great wireless range with the interior antenna and in my case removed the need for access points locally. It's v. easy to use/configure.

Most of the negative comments in these reviews seem to revolve around this router not holding an IP connection. To fix this, go to the "WAN Settings" tab of the admin screen and UN-TICK "Connect Automatically, as required" and click "Apply"- yes UN-TICK it. If you are on PPPoA and this is ticked, it automatically reconnects with DSL but does not re-establish your IP connection. With it un-ticked, it will re-connect to the internet on the first outgoing traffic like many other broadband routers. If only they'd had this as the default!

If your line was dropping out very frequently however this is not normal so check out with your service provider, you may have an intermittent line problem you were not previously aware of until you bought this router. Infrequent drop-outs are normal however for...
Unable to maintain a connection.
In many ways, this router is an excellent piece of kit. It has Netgear's characteristically easy-to-use administration page, it is *very* well equipped to serve all but the most demanding of home users with its gigabit ethernet and Wireless N networking connections, and it looks rather good.

However, this router will NOT hold a connection. I've had two of them, and both lose the connection to the internet and refuse to reconnect automatically (despite the appropriate settings being selected). There are ways to reconnect - if you want to log in to the router or reboot every few hours, but I did not. I wanted something that would stay connected and make my "always on" broadband connection always available.

I'm not the only one, either. Just search for "Netgear DGN3500 problems" to find pages of problems. Upgrading the firmware didn't help, either.

So, despite having the potential to be a great device, this one goes back to Amazon as defective, as did the...
Stable Under Pressure
At first this router was unstable and needed reset daily due to wifi or internet connection issues but after a week or 2 it finally stabilised and has worked fine since. I only bought this model as I required compatibility with O2 broadband and ADSL2+. It is suggested that the router and ISP chip should match to guarantee stability of connection.
The device includes Wireless N and 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports as well as the USB port, all the latest features required in a media hungry household. I currently have a 24hr Media Server, PC and TV wired to the router and multiple laptops, smart phones and a printer using the wifi daily, all without any issues.
I've had the router over 6 months now and apart from the first 2 weeks when it was a connection nightmare, I've only had to reboot it once, and that was due to a firmware update.

TP-Link TL-ANT2408CL 2.4GHz 8dbi Indoor Omni-Directional Antenna

Much Needed Boost
I think it best to start this review by mentioning what these aerials are not for; specifically, these aerials will not magically boost the range of your network, so if you're having trouble getting a usable wireless connection in a large property or with an awkwardly located router, then I'm afraid these aren't going to help you. Anyone in such a situation may experience a small boost at best with these aerials, and only if both devices (wireless access point and wireless client) are able to fit these external aerials, you are much better off looking into moving your wireless router to a more central location, or investigating a wireless bridge or a repeater (both will likely require your existing router to support WDS!).

What these aerials are good for however is boosting the performance of an existing, stable wireless connection, which is what they've done for me. I was in a situation where my wireless performance fluctuates a bit, largely because of interference from...
Well made.. but!
Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the effectiveness of these antennas' because, they made no discernible improvement.

It may very well be that as I live in an old Edwardian House, with thick walls, they did not work for me, but they are very well made and robust!

Have to be worth a try if you live in a modern property, but older places are too well built..lol!
What do they do?
So what do these actually do? If you have a signal that fades within 7 or 8 metres through plasterboard walls, then surely an aerial with higher gain would improve the signal? Not so, it seems. Used with a TP-Link TD-WD8960N Router (judgement reserved on this item at the moment) in place of the standard aerials, there was no noticeable difference in signal strength measured around the house.

I have a couple of TP-Link switches, and they are great value for money, so I had high hopes of these.

They do look impressive, sticking up 10 1/2 inches when fitted, so that might appeal to some. Personally, I am not convinced, so am going to try the Powerline extender units next.

NEWLink 7dBi Omni Directional Reverse SMA Antenna (N11510)

Cheap, but it works...
With some wireless antennas costing as much as four times as much as this one I wondered whether its low price betrayed reduced quality and functionality, but as soon as it was screwed onto our upstairs desktop PC our own network and two other local networks made themselves known.

With a signal from the PC downstairs that is consistent and never listed as less than excellent in Windows, whatever the conditions, I'm pleased that I didn't pay more.
Bargain - cheap solution to correct marginal performance
The location of my office computer was such that it was at the very edge of range for my Sky Netgear router's signal - sometimes it worked, sometimes it dropped out. I had tried basic repositioning of router and resetting the channel it broadcast on to see if I could get a stronger signal, but no avail. I ordered this rather than the more expensive and apparently complicated option of getting an additional router - I reckoned I only needed to add an extra 10ft to my range. The product came within 1 working day of ordering, screwed into the existing antenna port within 5 seconds and hey presto, I have a reliable connection.
Good value signal booster
Easy to unscrew and remove standard antenna that came with my Netgear DG834G wirelsss modem/router and replace with this product, it does seem to have improved the signal around the house so in that respect is good value for money.

Belkin 802.11g Wireless Modem Router

It worked for me!
Like others I approached this purchase cautiously, especially as where installing new hardware/software is concerned we've learn't not to trust manufacturer's claims. But this installation worked perfectly, first time - and I was impressed with Belkin's installation wizard I downloaded first from their website. In fact I didn't need it, I just followed the few written instructions. I have a desktop connected via a wired network card and a laptop via an inbuilt wireless card.
I've found the range to be very good - all round the house, and about 60 yards in the garden, with the transmitter in the front bedroom of the house.

I initially had two problems because I wanted full networking - not just Internet access. Both were down to Windows XP default settings. You have to deselect the inbuilt Windows XP Firewall, and also ensure that 'Enable Network Access Control using IEEE 8021X' - is not selected either. Go to NETWORK CONNECTIONS, click on the LAN connection device being used...
Excellent performance, poor information
This is a very tidy piece of kit, that works well in a 54G environment. I bought the PCI N/W card and am getting excellent signal, with 54M throughput. Connecting to BT Broadband is easy (use PPPoA VPI=0,VCI=38). File & print sharing is easy (I suggest all clients are DHCP). Gaming works.
However, had problems with windows update, hotmail, and academic web addresses. Belkin info useless. I didn't bother with the telephone, but the Microsoft website suggested opening port 443 for windows update. (Set this in Virtual Server). When I did this, it resolved all web problems.
The router's time does not update as it should, and you can't set it, but this is only useful for checking its log - which is a bit on the brief side anyway.
All in all, I am finally delighted.
Excellent product, great value and easy to use.
I bought the Belkin ADSL Modem & Wireless Router to set-up a wireless home network so that I did not need to keep my desktop computer turned on when I wanted to use the internet on my laptop. The setup was very easy and I was up and running in only 30 minutes after opening the box. The range on the wireless network is good (gives good signal strength all round the house) and the ability to include wired network contactions means I can network an X Box directly off the router too.

The wireless security and firewall facilities are easy to set-up and modify throught the internet explorer based interface.

I would recommend this product to anybody who is looking set up wireless home network.

Three Mobile Huawei E5331 Mobile WiFi Ready To Go 3GB Preloaded Data

A value solution to mobile broadband
I bought my girlfriend a Huawei E586 MiFi unit for work - it was so good that I decided that I'd like to have my own MiFi for use with my iPad (WiFi) version. I looked at this unit in locked form on the 3 Network and functionally there is very little difference between this and the more expensive E586. This E5331 MiFi is the "value model" in Huawei's range, and, in my opinion, its broadband performance is as good as the E586 which costs around

Netgear WGPS606 Wireless 54Mbps Printserver with 4-Port Switch

At last, a wireless print server that works
I had bought a Belkin wireless print server (F1UP0001UK) which was awful. No end of difficulties setting up and hours spent on (free) phone to guy in India who couldn't sort connection problem. Found from net trawl that set-up was often impossible so sent it back. I was reluctant to try again but was tempted to this Netgear unit by the positive reviews re ease of set-up. I am so glad I went for it. It has just taken <30mins to set it up first time (after I temporarily disabled firewall on ethernet LAN whilst connected to unit for set-up). I have printed several test sheets on HP PSC2170 and all works quickly and well. I use Dell laptop and Dell wireless router. Does exactly what it says on the box with ease. Well done, Netgear.
Great for Printing and Connection Sharing - Forget Scanning
I originally bought this item because I couldn't run a cable from my wireless router (NetGear DG834G) to my PC (which isn't wireless) and I wanted to be able to print wirelessly from my notebook without having to have one of my PCs on all the time aacting as a print server, burning electricity.

This item was the answer. It's worked from day 1 allowing me to print wirelessly and extend my ADSL connection to my PC that is plugged into one of the 4 RJ45 sockets on the back of the 606. If that's what you're looking for then you'll be fully satisfied.

A word of warning to experienced techies - follow the setup instructions to the letter - don't think you're just going to use the IP settings on the print server and create ports manually on your PC without doing a step by step setup. I tried to, and wasted about an hour before I gave up. It's quicker to do it with their setup CD.

The reason for only 4 stars?

I have an LP1200 printer and a Canon...
No problems and works with unlisted printer
I purchased this despite having read some reviews with problems on setup and an unlisted printer. No problems - it all worked first time. I took the time to download from Netgear the new installer and used this. You seem to have to connect your PC to the 606 via a Network lead during setup. The 606 found my home wireless Network OK and converted my installed HP Deskjet 5150 to use the wireless network. All OK. Now works completely wirelessly, no network lead between PC and 606. A 2nd Laptop also installed the HP printer OK no problems. I had no problems with Windows Firewall on XP. I allocated a fixed IP address on my wireless broadband router for the 606, and also switched off MAC filtering security temporary whilst setting up.
Now works with 2 wireless laptops, wireless router and 606 all OK with MAC filtering switched back on.

The instructions printed in the box are poor, but the PDF from Netgear more than is needed.

Belkin High Speed Wireless G+ Router

Just works.
My only regret so far (after using the router for a month) is I didn't buy it sooner. "Installation" was as hard as plugging it in and installing the software off the included CD. I have a Dell PC laptop connected to it with a wireless card, a Mac iBook connected to it via an ethernet cable, and even a RedHat Linux system connected via ethernet cable too. To my amazement every system just works with this little wonder, without a hitch. Now it sits on the shelf and does what it's supposed to: just works.
The first thing I've ever had to send back to Amazon
I have to agree with P. Willis' earlier review. This is a shoddy product - despite a supposedly easy setup process, after at least two hours of pissing about, I couldn't for the life of me get the damn thing to detect a wireless signal of any sort.

Unfortunately, I'm going to go and get some bubble wrap later, and return the product (not to mention the two Belkin USB adaptors I also bought) to Amazon. I'll either try a Netgear router, or simply not bother at all.

Clearly, most people have no problem with this product, but for those of us who can't seem to get it to work, it's somewhat annoying - particularly as the much-vaunted 'free' Belkin support line has been moved to an 0845 number.

I shan't bother with Belkin again.
excellent device, complex setup
I am very happy with this device. Works well with Telewest/Blueyonder broadband service without any problems.

Setup is far from straightforward. Probably because of special requirements relating to Blueyonder, the quick setup CD is completely useless and I needed to consult the 800 technical advice number. Once connected to that number, which took a reasonable amount of waiting, they were able to guide me through a reasonably painless process of getting the installation done. However, I stayed on the phone with them for about 20 minutes and this is with me following every instruction to the letter very quickly without any hitch in the middle of the process. This probably wiped a considerable amount of the profit they gained from the sale of this unit to me, and wipes a considerable amount of the profit for them in general with regard to all other Blueyonder users.

The technical issue involved is basically that the router needs to clone the mac address of the computer which...

TP-Link TL-SG1016D 16-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch

looks the business, and works the business too
Very professional looking piece of kit. built out of metal casing, and is as big as one of those rack computers themselves. The power cord is a standard PC power cord, and plugs right into the case (this means the power supply is inside the case). I also have the 5 and 8 port versions, which are made of plastic casing, and the power supply is inside the plug itself. This means the 24 port version looks very sturdy and professional, whereas the 5/8 port versions look more flimsy. Having said that, they all work flawlessly, unlike the ZyXel, which costs more and blows up only after half an hour's use (I did have a replacement from EBuyer, which seems to work without any further problem so far).
what could possibly be better than this? Brilliant
I bought this 16 Port switch to connect up my growing connected home, which was previously lashed together with two basic 4 port 10/100 mbps switches.

I have connected up a BT Home Hub v3 (also acts as a WiFi access point), Microsoft Windows Media Centre, Xbox360, Freesat Box with BBC iPlayer, Five additional Ethernet ports in other rooms, and a second Wifi Access Point (TP-Link TL-WA701ND 150Mbps Wireless Lite N Access Point ) = 10 Ports used in Total.

All plug and Play. As I have two wireless access points I just had to make the TP-Link access point get its ip address from the BT Home Hub's DHCP server so that ip addresses were not duplicated.

The TP-Link 16 Port Switch has a solid metal casing that gives it a feel of huge quality compared with the plastic casing on the TP-Link WiFi access point BUT both products work very well indeed and are priced very well.
Good value, good quality
Nice switch. Not over-sized, but pleasantly surprised to find rack mount ears included. Simple, no configuration, working fine with our other switches and router.

DrayTek Vigor 120 - DSL modem - external - Fast Ethernet [PC]

Simple, fast
Bought this to complement a Apple 1TB Time Capsule Dual-Band WiFi router and replace the DSL WiFi router that comes with O2 subscription. It is very easy to set up and there was a quick guide on draytek's website specifically for O2 DSL subscribers with all the recommended settings.
The connexion works well, is extremely stable, and the download speed is around 20% higher than before - not too sure why that would be, and I was not expecting any significant difference, so it's a good surprise.
Just to be clear - this is a very good wired DSL modem, and nothing more. You will need a router to share the connexion. Which is fine if you already have a wifi router or really want to have dual band WiFi and a DSL connection (when I purchased mine, there was no 5GHz n DSL router, and I don't think there is as of Apr 10).
Easy/no setup
I am using this ADSL modem with an Apple Airport Extreme. It's very easy to setup. Plug this into the router with an ethernet cable, plug both the router and the modem into an ac outlet and finally set up your ISP settings within the router. It is also much more compact than I thought. I have attached a photo of it sitting on top of an Apple Airport Extreme, next to Western Digitals "elements" external hard drive for comparison.

I was put off initially by some negative reviews of slow upload speeds due to noise coming from this modem. If anything, my up/download speeds have increased and haven't had a problem with that yet.
Simple and solid
Bought to replace an X-Modem device connecting an Apple Airport Express to an ADSL line. Was initially a bit dubious about spending this much but it is a great little device and ideal partner for an Airport Extreme or Time Capsule. You can get way cheaper combined router/modems but if you want reliability, you are better paying for good quality

D-Link Wireless N ADSL2+ 4-Port Modem Router -DSL 2740R

Rock solid performer
This device won't win any awards for elegance, but its meaty, no-nonsense appearance - with three bristling antennae - suggests a robust workhorse.

Straight out of the box, you can see that the DSL-2740R has been properly thought through. It even comes with a hard copy user manual. Just plug it in, use the setup disk or ping its IP address, and config is clear and intuitive, the user management screens likewise.

Range and speed are better than previous N type routers I've owned from Netgear and Cisco. And it just sits there and works 24/7.

A very impressive beast. Recommended.
At last! .... A router which just simply works!
The last few years of my life have been littered with Modem/Routers, all of which worked - after a fashion, none of which were totally reliable or just got on with the job for which they were intended. I feel, however, that my pilgrimage to find a modem/router which 'does exactly what it says on the tin' is at long last over! This is it. A solid little box which sits on top of my bookcase and gets on with the job of being a router. No dropped connections, no resetting every hour or so, no overheating, no bells, whistles or whirling lights (Netgear take note!) - It simply does what it is supposed to do and does it quickly and efficiently. The answer to my prayers!
Possible the best router ive owned for a BT ADSL Connection
Scenario : Need a Simple Wireless Router with a strong range and throughput for Gaming and Wireless Connections to more than 2 devices in a Detached House.

Enter the D-Link Wireless N DSL-2740R Modem Router.

Straight from the Box, it was well packaged as described in other reviews. In terms of Setup, the ease of the Setup CD made it a breeze to install. I was much more comfortable setting this up than with the older generation Belkin Wireless N Router I had. 1. Pop the CD in 2. Plug the Power to the Router in and confirm the connection 3. Select the Provider and you are basically done......its literally that simple (ok a few connection diagrams it shows to confirm you are connected right for people who are new to setting up a wireless network.)
Set-Up : 5/5

Customization is simple. It has loads of options for the user to select. Compared to the normal BT Homehub, this was a nice upgrade for Network Gaming. The port forwarding can easily be...

NETGEAR Wireless-N 300 Router with DSL Modem DGN2200 - Wireless router - DSL - 4-port switch - 802.11b/g/n - desktop

Netgear N300 Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router DGN2200
This was a replacement for the BT Business Hub I was given when the ADSL circuit was put in. I've had two BT supplied 2-Wire units in two weeks, and the second one just failed: They're utterly useless.

Anyway, I set up the DGN2200 to work with the BT system:
Multiplex: VC-BASED
VPI/VCI 0/38
DSL Mode Auto
PPPoA Encapsulation and my BT Supplied login and password

The Netgear on-disk setup wizard wasn't particularly brilliant. It chose the wrong encapsulation method for me, so it didn't work. But having manually configured the router, it immediately connected to BT and started hunting for a firmware upgrade. Oh boy, I thought to myself, here we go! However, not only did the firmware upgrade work smoothly, it didn't wipe out my previous settings, which I've had with numerous routers in the past. Excellent.

The ADSL connection appears to be rock solid, and the wireless connection is fast and offers good signal strength over the...
DGN2200-100PES Netgear Wireless -N Router & 300Mbps Modem.
For anypone requiring a wireless modem which will reach to "anywhere" in the house... or even the outside conservatory,, this is it.
We previously had a BELKIN unit and was continually having trouble with "Low Signal" and "Low Speed" readings... computers were very slow to"open" with Internet conections... and not accessing sites on a regular basis.Laptops and Desktop computers with wireless dongle adapters alike..... Has taken away all the frustration, and time wasting.
This unit has stopped all of that,, and we are very very pleased indeed with regular 72Mpbs readings, and virtualy instant changes web page to web page.
Highly recommended, and worth every penny..but make sure it in connected to your incomming telephone point as close as possible with the supplied cable, even if you have to run a power point connection.
Great router, no problems, highly recommended.
Bought one of these for my office at work to replace a high spec Belkin router i bought about 2 years ago which has been very unreliable dropping connections to the Internet requiring a regular reboot. I have an older Netgear router at home which I'm happy with so thought this one would hopefully be a good choice. Straight out of the box, plugged it in, ran the set up web interface wizard it detected the adsl connection, entered the username and password and it was up and running. It also comes setup with wifi password and this is written on the underside of the router so no more configuration. We have aprox 25 staff many who connect iPhones, iPads, laptops, android devices so it really gets a hammering each day with multiple devices connected, so far it's been running for about 4 weeks and has had no issues, signal strength is very good too. The web interface is familiar if you've set up a Netgear router before, I've had to set up some port forwarding for a couple of devices and...

Belkin 802.11g Wireless G Desktop Network Card

Poor Signal Quality
Ok firstly let me say that Belkin Technologies is a reputable company, but some of its products is a big LET DOWN!
This is no different- this product is only good if you have your wireless router in the SAME ROOM as your wireless cards etc, otherwise your signal ratio will drop by almost 80%.

Heres my test:
Router in same room as Desktop PC w/ this card = Signal = 80%
Router just outside room as PC w/ this card = Signal = 50%
Router on floor below = Signal = 10-15%

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone! go get yourself a Netgear card, they are the 2nd best company for wireless, that is unless you can afford an expensive Orinico one!
Good card but let XP install the drivers...
The installation instructions for this card go something like 'run the installation CD first, then swtich off your PC when prompted and fit the card. Restart the machine and hey presto'.

Well, fair enough - that's works OK. However the extra software that gets installed just seems to conflict with XP and and I couldn't get a consistent connection to my broadband router. And my PC kept crashing.

So, I de-installed the card using the uninstall utiltiy Belkin provided, rebooted the PC, let XP discover the card and install the drivers from the Belkin installation CD. Now it works like a treat and the PC no longer crashes.

A reasonable buy but you may need to do some fiddling around to get it to work properly!
No problems at all
I have had no problems with this card since installing it a couple of months ago. I'm using it with Windows ME and a Belkin wireless modem/router.

Standard installation - install drivers, install card, swith PC back on, etc. Quick and simple.

It detected my wireless modem quickly and had no problems connecting to the network.

Can't fault it.

Linksys Wireless-G ADSL Modem Router w/4-Port Switch

Excellent Device - highly recommended. VPN an issue.
Worked straight out of the box.
I connected one wired laptop, one wired PS2, and one wireless laptop.
For PS2:

- you need to set up a few details to allow the PS2 to pass through the router (do a google for help)

For the wireless laptop:
- just make sure you do the obvious and turn the laptop radio transmitter ON. I didn't, which is why I spent 1 hour scratching my head. Doh!

For the wired laptop:
- this worked immediately. BUT - I use this laptop for work, which requires a VPN connection. The VPN ONLY WORKS IF THE FIREWALL IS DISABLED ! No amount of VPN passthrough stuff would allow the VPN connection to be made with the firewall enabled. Its a pain, but I can live with turning firewall on or off.

Other bits and pieces:
- Webcam works very well on wired laptop, or when the wireless laptop is 'wired'. But doing webcam on wireless means the video slows right down.

- PS2 multiplayer games are a dream.

- The gizmo is much smaller than I expected,...
An excellent device - highly recommended
I've used the WAG54G for over 3 months now. It comes with a BT ADSL filter enclosed in the package, plus a short Ethernet cable to plug into a PC to set it up - so literally, plug it together, go onto a browser on your PC (in my case, Mozilla on Linux), enter address 192.168.0.1 and voila - up comes all the set-up screens.

In my case, I have the unit at a fixed IP address on BT Business Broadband, but there's also provision in the firmware for using DynDNS - so you effectively get a fixed IP address even if you're on a normal (low cost!) DHCP connection.

I set mine up as a NAT router, so my wifes and sons PCs could go onto the Internet directly. Meanwhile, i've set it to forward all the common ports (for things like smtp, http, https, ipp, etc) to my Linux machine, so my Linux box is also my mail and web server to the Internet at large.

After setting the network name, the unit does help generate some random WPA encryption passwords to use on each of your client PCs to scramble...
Works OK, but has some flaws
I found it really easy to set up the basics - plugged it in, followed the configuration instructions and was connected within 10 minutes (literally) of opening the box. However, although linksys tell you what you need to know to get started, they don't tell you everything. I think they could do more to tell the uninitiated home user what else they need to do to protect their network: e.g. change the network name, gateway username and password as a minimum. Fortunately I knew this or at least worked it out for myself. Basically a bit more of a user guide wouldn't go amiss. I also had a few other problems though.
Firstly, an electical thunder storm seemed to knock out the ASDL modem so that I could no longer connect to the internet - so I'm now on my second unit (great returns service - thank you Amazon).
Secondly, it took me ages to work out how to change the default IP address for the gateway without losing access to the admin console. Most people won't need to do this, but...

HUMAX WIFI USB DONGLE FOR USE WITH HDRFOXT2 FREEVIEW RECORDER

Does just as advertised
The dongle picked up the wifi straight away and iPlayer worked straight away. I had read that there might be problems with the dongle coming out of the back of the Humax recorder so I used a USB extension lead so I could pong the dongle in the right direction. Very pleased with the fast delivery.
Nice addition to the Humax HD Freeview recorder
I bought the Humax HDRFOXT2 a few weeks ago and I was keen to get the best use out of the internet TV Portal feature (currently comprising BBC iPlayer, YouTube and a few other less useful options). Due to the layout of my living room I decided to connect wirelessly and bought this dongle. It's only an inch and half long so sits quite happily in the USB port to the rear, leaving the port in front free for memory sticks and whatnot. Set up was a 2 minute doddle. The connection (to a BT Homehub 3) has been flawless since I plugged it in. Recommended if you want to connect without wires.
Great addition!
I bought this for HDR-FOX T2 so we could use the "TV Portal" with the iPlayer. It arrived next day, even though it was by Royal Mail!

I've seen reports of people jumping through hoops, plugging it into their PC to configure it first. On the HDR-FOX T2 don't bother - plug it in, switch the box on and go straight to the internet system settings menu - in 5 minutes it was connected.

The one word of caution. My HDR-FOX T2 is under the TV against the wall and some way from the broadband router. While it reported a very good signal, it wasn't ideal for the TV Portal. The received wisdom is that you have to use the USB port on the back where the dongle is likely to be right against the wall and probably in the worst place to get a signal. This is nonsense - the dongle works perfectly well in the front USB port which may be better located to get a really good signal. If you're happy it won't get snapped off, the front is probably better.

Alternatively, put a...

Buffalo Airstation NFINITI WL-N 300MBPS Wireless Broadband Router and Access Point

NOT easiest to set up, but decent wireless signals
Most important point to note: this router DOES NOT have an ADSL modem built it. It is designed to work with an external broadband modem.

I know my way round networking, and still it took me a fair bit of time to get this thing working. The main probably is trying to get into the config page in the first place. With a lot of messing around with the included CD which supposedly gets your PC talking to the router even if it's on different subnets, but it didn't want to play.

It somehow worked about a lot of restarting the router and changing my PC's subnet, still not sure how I got into the config page, just happy I did.

I am actually only using it was a wireless access point, so I can't comment on the router features.

In terms of wireless performance, it's decent. I was worried that without any external antenna the signal strength might suffer, but I can report it's giving me better signals than my aging 'g' router which does have an...
Excellent router - good value for money
I got the router 3days after i have ordered and the set up was very straight forward. I got this to replace my previous Cisco router as it kept disconnecting and connecting, but this Buffalo router has never (touch wood) dropped out and extremely reliable. I'm very happy with it!
Extended wireless access solution
I have two of these devices which I initially used to wirelessly extend the internet to the other side of the house. Both units provide intenet access either wired using the 4 rj45 ports or wirelessly using the integrated antenna. The first unit is set up as the router and connects to the Virgin cable modem, the second is set to 'off' (access point) mode. The link between the two is achieved by enabling 'WDS' mode. This worked very well where previous wireless extenders had failed, the only issue was that as they had to use a common wireless channel this was open to interference from neighbours wireless units on both sides of the house.

The next major improvement was to introduce two homeplug adaptors to replace the WDS wireless link between the units. WDS was disabled and each of the homeplug adaptors wired into their respective Buffalo router/access point. Each unit now operates on independent wireless channels and devices may be connected wirelessly or wired using one...

D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N 300Mbps wireless Cable Router - 4 Port 10/100 Switch & Xbox Live service compatibility

D-Link DIR-615
I bought this router to replace my old router because my other router was no good for my PS3.

Setup was very simple it took me about 15 minutes to set everything up, the connection is excellent and the speed of the router is very fast.

My PS3 found the wireless router straight the way and the signal strength was 90% my router is downstairs and my PS3 is upstairs so its got a good range on it to. 10/10
D-link 615 is all you need for great gaming on xbox/ps3
i had seen a few mixed reviews on this router but decided to give it a go as i have never had a problem with any D-link product before, and i was not let down. This is the best cable router i have used to date, with the kids both playing COD online on the x-box360 and ps3 no lag nice fast speed.
Another Great Router from D-Link
I got this Router for a friend to replace his previous Belkin Router which looked like something that came out of a lucky bag to be honest, really cheap and nasty sort of device that had about as much power in it than that of a battery from Poundland, and was totally inadequate for running his devices with any integrity or quality. The Router was to use in conjunction with his Virgin modem to which the Belkin was doing a really poor job of it. One thing that I will say for D-Link is that they are great quality built Routers that are capable of running everything you can throw at them. I have one myself though not this particular model number, and I can assure you they run perfect, so much so that they have convinced me to choose there company over Netgear who I used to be a great fan of a couple of years back.

The D-Link Dir 615 is a truly great Router at a truly great price, it comes with a quick installation set-up via a CD-Rom Disc, though in reality you do not really...

Linksys by Cisco WRT120N Wireless-N Router - 150 mbps (for Cable connections i.e Virgin Broadband)

smart, easy-to-install, does the job
Bought this for a friend's home setup, to give them wireless internet access from their ageing ntl:/Virgin broadband setup.

Installation was a doddle, although it's quite hilarious how many items in the box have a sticker on them telling you to run the CD before plugging in the router! It autoconfigured and was all up-and-running within 10 minutes, with very little intervention from me (a good thing). Signal strength was strong, so speed was good, even with the router in the upstairs study and the actual laptop being used in the lounge, downstairs and to the right of that.

Overall, very impressed with this. Not the cheapest router, but the trade-off with that was not spending hours tweaking configuration settings to persuade it to work. It just did it.
Good For Standard Home Users
This router works well for a home user with simple requirements. It comes with an ethernet cable, and supports the following security modes:-

WEP
WPA Personal
WPA2 Personal
WPA Enterprise
WPA2 Enterprise

As such the majority of users should have no compatibility issues.

The router could have been improved upon if it had the capacity to simultaneously use WPA and WEP. This would give the user the ability to connect devices through WEP, for example a Nintendo DS, whilst the rest of the devices are still connected through WEP.

It is also important to note that although Cisco state that the WRT120N is a "Wireless N" route, it is not actually draft 802.11N certified. This means that the true speed of a wireless N router cannot be attained using this router.

The Cisco Linksys firmware is quite limited with this device. Many advanced users prefer to replace the firmware with a third party version. At the...
I like it
If you go wireless for the first and your broadband provider is Virgin media you want to try this router. It is very easy to install. I only needed it for a range up to 20 meters. It covers perfectly that distance (upstair, garden). It is obviusly wireless and therefore I would not expect to have a performance on the same level of the ethernet cable. In fact my main computer is still on the ethernet cable. If you are not looking for any extra performance (downloading or speaking on skype) this router will cover all the basic internet features (e-mails, researches etc.). It is also good value for money.

Belkin G Wireless Router with Easy Set Up & 54Mbps Transfer Speed (F5D7234uk4-H). For use with Cable or DSL Modem only

Good Wifi router.
I bought this router as my friend has the same one for his iPod touch, it was very easy to set up, I used the disc to set up, it doesn't install anything just tells you how to connect everything and checks for internet access etc.

The only thing that bothered me, after the setup was done there was no mention of securing your network with a password or any type of encryption! you have to go to the ip address of the router 192.168.2.1 and select security and follow the options form there, here you can set administrator password, encryption type and pass key for wifi access, I'm not sure if all wifi routers are like this, I would suggest using wpa/wpa2 encryption as wep encryption can be easily hacked in 10 minuets, believe me i know!

as for signal, i get an excellent signal form around the house and even outside! i use my wifi mobile to connect and gives good speed on my phone, ideal for any wifi enabled gadget. ps3, mobile, laptop etc...

overall i'm...
First time Wireles user
I have a Virgin media cable modem (Modem is Motorola) and I was a little unsure as to which wireless router would be compatible. I went for the Belkin because it was the cheapest I could find (

Billion BiPAC 7700N 300 Mbps ADSL2+ Router with Wireless N Firewall

Exellent Wireless ADSL2+ Router for Home Use
This ADSL router is a trimmed down version of its bigger brother - the Billion 7800N Dual WAN ADSL2+ Wireless Firewall Router - THE best ADSL+ router I have come across. You will find my detailed review of the BiPAC 7800N model by looking up the product Billion BiPAC 7800N Dual WAN ADSL2+/Broadband Wireless-N Gigabit Firewall Modem Router, and most of the general comments for 7800N also apply to the 7700N model being reviewed here.

The trimming down referred to actually doesn't affect the capability of this wireless ADSL2+ router for general home use. One notable downgrade is that the Ethernet ports are 10/100Mbps as opposed to 100/1000Mbps on the 7800N model. The increased Ethernet data speed only makes a difference (under ideal conditions) if you're making local file transfers (say between two computers on your LAN) otherwise the 100Mbps speed is more than adequate to handle the Internet side data...
Excellent Router
Top class router at an excellent price. Better wireless coverage than my previous Voyager 2110, looks good and performs without fault. If you are into 'tweaking' your connection then allows access via Telnet, or the DTM Tool, and hangs onto a connection like a limpet!
Perfect router for home usage!
I've owned many routers in the past from Linksys, Thomson, Netgear among others. This is my first Billion router, and so far, I'm impressed.

This router is perfect for home usage. It's Billion's entry level wireless router, with a broadcom chipset. If you don't know too much about modem/routers just consider that it's very good in this price range.

Setting this up is very easy. After switching the router on, it will create a wireless network, with the name 'wlan-ap' which you can connect to, or you can use a wired connection via ethernet cable. After this, go to your browser and type in 192.168.1.254 into the address bar and hit enter, you'll be prompted for a username and password, which is simply 'admin' for both.

From this page you can set up your SSID name, wireless security, ISP/ADSL settings and so forth. It's pretty easy to do if you've set up a router before. If you haven't, you can simply insert the CD provided which will ask you for your ADSL...

BT Home Hub 3.0 and BT Total Broadband Welcome Pack FOR BT ONLY

BT Infinity
This router was included in the package when I (very recently) had BT Infinity broadband installed, so I'll review it as part of the Infinity package. I used it to replace a Belkin N wireless router.

The hub was set up by the engineer, and the whole package seems to work well. I got a download speed of 37Mb over a wired connection to my desktop, and 34Mb over wireless to a laptop. The wireless laptop is about 10m away, but that's through a thick solid wall and a ceiling. It's fantastic after my previous 'up to 8Mb' speed of 0.5Mb - 1.5Mb.

I've got a network attached drive, and (provided I turn Windows auto-update off) the wireless laptop plays FLAC files without stuttering. This is an improvement over the Belkin, which occasionally stuttered, though I've maybe just been lucky avoiding network contention so far. I can now watch YouTube on the telly in real time when I link up to my laptop.

The instruction manual is minimalist and fairly useless, though...
Home Hub 3
I've been having problems with my home hub 1,now 6 year old, having to continually reset it. Reading other reviews I decided to update to this device, I now wonder why I did not do it before. Desktop hard wired & laptop wireless both working well with no interuptions. Would thouroughly reccomend.
An inherently flawed product inside and out
With its attractive, sleek design and small exterior, the BT Home Hub tries so hard to win you over. Unfortunately, aesthetics is just about all this disastrous device can do right.
I received this alongside my brand new BT Infinity 2 package. With speeds of up to 80mbps down and 20mbps up, I was understandably fairly excited and began streaming 1080p video whilst laughing as my superhuman connection ate up everything I threw at it.

Two days later, the problems started. Wireless connectivity is intermittent and erratic. It will work fine for roughly 12-18 hours before it slows to a crawl, fixable only by powering down the router and starting it up again. It is now part of my daily routine to cycle the cursed thing every morning to help prevent the problem from arising. Further research suggests that this is common in many of the hubs, both new and old. It can happen as quick as flicking a switch; suddenly your games will lag, your videos will buffer indefinitely and...

TP-Link TL-WR1042ND 300Mbps Wireless N Gigabit CABLE Router

LOOKS GOOD BUT UNSTABLE WITH iOS6 DEVICES
I would agree with some other reviews that this router has frustrated me. Yes, it's packed with features and flexibility but it is not set up correctly to use in the UK and is a bit fiddly to set up and get going.

However once set up it seemd to be working fine and speeds were enhanced there is no doubt about that, but the moment
two tablets were added to the home network (Nexus 7 and iPad Mini) not one device on the home network will hold a reliable wireless signal. That is all devices - great (not)!

Reply from TP-Link suggests the problem is known for iOS6/1 software and that it won't "integrate" into the wireless networks with other devices.

For me this is a major flaw if you want serial devices to be connected.

Back to my old router I'm afraid.
Astonishing value at around

Linksys by Cisco WAG200G Wireless-G ADSL2+ Modem Router

Wonderful!
I chose one of these as a free replacement for a WAG54G which I had for 2 1/2 yrs before developing a fault - Linksys just told me to send it back and choose one of three other models!

The WAG54G was never great speed/range wise so I was quite happy to get the '200' as a free replacement as it has an 18dbM antennae which gives me signal anywhere in the house/garden and even allows neighbours across the road to share my broadband!

The little stand it comes with allows it to stand virtically (as shown above) which of course means a very small footprint.

The software in this is also much improved over the old '54G' and it also supports WPA as well as WEP.

I think it looks good too - one to proudly display rather than wanting to hide in a cupboard!

Last but certainly not least I have to say that this thing is incredibly stable; I havn't had to reset it since the day I set it up (which, by the way, took about 10mins!) and that was...
Good product - once it's working
The WAG has performed tirelessly once it was set up with my pc properly (running Windows 2000). It seemed to install fine initially, but I subsequently found that connections and downloads from certain sites just could not be made (eg McAfee, Windows Update). After a lot of frustration I contacted the Linksys online help chat facility, and I have to say that their support staff were brilliant (and patient). To cut a long story short it appeared that the firmware needed to be updated (WHY???? - it was brand new out of the box and I've had Windows 2000 for 6 years!!) Further problems then ensued, requiring the router to be configured separately by my laptop (Windows Vista) and my old modem. This was infuriating, not because of any technical difficulty as such, but because the setup was now relying on external hardware which many other people in a similar predicament may well not have available. The other observation made then and subsequently was that it takes forever to reboot and...
Good - once you have got it working
I bought this as a replacement for a 3Com box that had died after several years service. The 3Com box was a doddle to set up (plug everything in, power up and point my browser at the router's IP address) whereas this one was far from a doddle.

It comes with an installation CD and there are several notes saying to run the CD first which I foolishly did. Do NOT run the CD. Running the CD starts a wizard that takes you through the steps of plugging everything in then tries to do the configuration. The configuration failed because the wizard could not find the router box and it told me that I had not plugged everything in properly.

Also the wizard cannot be cleanly shut down. It does not have a Close button and cannot be shut down by AltF4 or from the Taskbar. I had to use Task Manager to kill it.

The router also comes with an installation booklet that contradicts the installation wizard - the first thing it says to do is to switch off your PC...

Linksys by Cisco WRT610N Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router with Storage Link (for Cable connections i.e Virgin Broadband)

Feature packed item, only let down by wireless signal problems
Impressed by the specifications of this router, I know I was when I looked at it.

Having previously owned a Linksys WRT350N I knew what to expect from this router, my networking is reasonably knowledgable and as such I didnt use the CD based setup procedure, instead I setup the unit manually, this is very easily done by visiting 192.168.1.1 (login and password are both initially 'admin').

The configuration interface was clean, and easy to understand, as it was virtually identical to my previous Linksys router it didnt take me long to configure everything.

Problem no.1: The unit didn't want to lease an IP address from my Orange Livebox modem, Solution: Allow more leasable IP addresses from the Orange Livebox, and start the leasable IP range on the WRT610n from xxx.xxx.xxx.100 , that seems to do the trick.

At this point everything was setup, and running very very sweetly, my PS3 recognised the inbuilt media server and could stream...
Superb
OK so maybe after the hideous experience of owning a Belkin N+ I am just pleased to find a router that was so straight forward to set-up and just works.

I have to say the features on this are wide ranging and useful. Also it looks great so much so that I have not hidden it away.

The wireless functionality is fast and the Gigabit ports are a fantastic luxury.

Has been used under heavy load, with both PS3 and Xbox 360 both online at the same time, no problems at all

I also use it as a NAS drive alternative. Have attached a 40GB USB drive which contains my music media and this serves my PS3 music.

Yes its quite expensive but this is a great example of getting what you pay for. Recommended!
Childs play
I brought this mainly for the storage link. As usual with a Linksys router the installation CD does all the work and it was up and running within 5 minutes. The storage link could be set up by a five year old, I connected a 500GB Buffalo Drivestation and couldnt be happier with it. Streaming movies to a PS3 gives perfect results with smooth playback. An unexpected bonus is that on my old Linkys router it used to ping at about 40ms and its now down to 5ms, makes all the difference on games like COD4! It is a bit pricey but if you already have a spare external drive it saves buying a NAS which I was considering until I saw this. Overall a fantastic piece of kit and as an added bonus it looks great too.
